Cerec Crowns
Crowns are a type of dental restoration which, when cemented into place, covers the entire tooth which lies at and above the gum line. In comparison, fillings are dental restorations that are used to fill just a portion of a tooth. Since dental crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown in effect becomes the tooth`s new outer surface.
“CEREC” Crowns are high tech tooth-colored crowns that are made from a special ceramic material. This special ceramic has been developed to have physical properties similar to enamel. In fact, this special ceramic is the closest material we have to enamel. “CEREC” crowns are fabricated outside the mouth, but inside the office, using state-of-the-art CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture) technology.
After your tooth is prepared for a crown, we use a computer to acquire a “3-Dimensional Optical Impression” of the tooth. The “CEREC” crown is then designed on a computer and milled from the special ceramic material. The “CEREC” crown is then polished and bonded onto your tooth, restoring your tooth to a strong, pristine state.
Unlike more traditional crowns that require 2 office visits, “CEREC” crowns require only 1 office visit to complete. This eliminates the need for a second office visit, and the associated anesthetic injection. Also, the discomfort, worry and inconvenience of temporary crowns are eliminated.
“CEREC” crowns are strong, natural-looking crowns that fit precisely and restore your teeth to proper form and function, for many, many, MANY years.
